This weekend I had the wonderful opportunity to visit a whaling museum. In addition to seeing the fun artifacts, and learning about the tragic history of whales in this country (only 10-60 whales in 1935 when hunting was finally banned), I learned about the extremely difficult life of working on a whaling ship. It was so dangerous to live and work on a ship, be away from your family and loved ones for potentially years, and not know if you would even come back alive.

Nowadays, it’s much easier to get oil or gas. And jobs for most people, especially in the U.S. is not all that dangerous. Which brings me to the question I often like to ask: What are you doing with that hard-won privilege?

I understand it may feel like you are just managing to survive, trying to make ends meet with your 9-5 job. But what if you saw things differently? What if you had higher expectations of life, for you? What might you do? What might you try?
