After three weeks in the hospital with my mom and during two weeks in self-isolation recovering from a virus during the time COVID-19 tests were not readily available, I spent my time intensively researching viruses, working on my personal healing, and developing new routines.
To share da Love, I’ll be sending out my discoveries through our award-winning Women’s Biz Coop newsletter and blog.
This week, I’ll write where I was by when.
Where did we leave off?
I woke up with a scratch in my throat. At first I thought it was nothing, perhaps the beginning of allergy season. I hadn’t been taking my local bee pollen to ramp up my immunity. So I started drinking tea with bee pollen and told my mom and boyfriend that it’s probably allergies.
Day 2, I started with low grade fevers. One minute I’m hot, the next I’m internally cold. I’m still visiting my mom, since I’m convinced that it’s allergies.
Day 3, the fevers are worse. I’m feeling very low energy with body aches. On the news, symptoms of COVID-19 are circulating. My fever isn’t over 101, so I presume I have the flu.
Day 4, the first case arrived in the area. So far, no one mentioned symptoms of nausea and dizziness. Now I assume that I have a virus. It could be the flu or it could be COVID-19. I don’t know, because there’s no testing available. That’s the last day that I visit my mom in the hospital.
Day 5-6, I’m delirious almost falling down with episodes of dizziness and nausea in grocery stores. My breathing was OK, but my chest was heavy, like a small animal was sitting on top of me. I didn’t know that later it would creep down my throat and into my chest.
One day I felt I was getting better and the next day I was worse. I didn’t know if I was coming or going. I had entered the phase of the cha-cha: one step forward and two steps back.
I took Tylenol. Normally I don’t take medicines if I can avoid them. The hot and cold episodes were so bad that I took Tylenol.
Day 7, Mom was being discharged. I could not pick her up at the hospital and I went into isolation. My fevers were worsening along with my body aches. I collapsed and slept upon her arrival.
Day 8-11, I slept a lot. Gravity was such a downer, pulling my body down as my breathing got worse. I had little to no energy even though I continued to work from home.
Day 12, it entered my chest and air felt like it was being squeezed out. I almost started to panic, researching testing centers that were only available to those over 50 years-old or to healthcare workers. I knew I was on my own to heal this virus.
That’s when I turned to this next video on choosing your own adventure that saved mine and my partner’s lives:
I hope that it can help you and your families, too!
I’ll continue my journey in the next post: How I Healed Myself.
