Top 10 Learned From 2016 Elections

As a minority woman executive, I see these results as an opportunity for our country to unify, to debate certain cultural normatives, and to re-organize.

Here’s my top 10 of what I learned from 2016 elections:

1. Peacefully FIGHT!! Use your disappointment, anger, and frustration with the system, candidates, or the process to peacefully fight the new status quo.

2. Do something. Introduce yourself to your neighbors. Create a group. Be citizens, not consumers.

3. Don’t wait every 4 years.

4. Don’t laze back in front of the TV – ORGANIZE to change. Mid-terms are only 2 years away.

5. DO get involved. Be a role model for your children and your children’s children.

6. And in time, we will heal as individuals, groups, and a country.

7. In 2 years, we’ll have an opportunity to raise our voices again. In 4 years with greater numbers, we’ll head back to the polls.

8. And we’ll choose our the transition of our leadership once again.

9. And as time heals all, perhaps we can even find in our hearts the deepest of gratitudes for this moment.

10. For this was the moment that we realized that democracy starts with us, not a party, not a candidate, and not an election, but in our own homes, our neighborhoods, and our hearts.
